Royal Netherlands Marechaussee (KMar)

The Royal Netherlands Marechaussee (KMar) is a police force with military status. As the KMar also executes the role of border police, it is through this role that the KMar primarily encounters victims of cross-border human trafficking. However, they may also intervene where other forms of human trafficking are concerned.

What can the KMar do to help?

Any signals picked up by the KMar are followed up immediately where possible (for example, by the arrest of individuals) and are always shared with the Expertise Centre for Human Trafficking and Human Smuggling (EMM) for further analysis. In addition, the KMar refers the victim to CoMensha for placement in a shelter. The Supervision division (BG) within the Alien Affairs brigade of the Schiphol District handles the return of foreign nationals who do not have lawful residence status in the Netherlands to their country of origin; such foreign nationals may include victims of human trafficking.
