The Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND) is responsible for carrying out the immigration policy in the Netherlands. This responsibility means that the IND assesses all applications from foreign nationals who want to live in the Netherlands or who want to become Dutch citizens. For that reason, the IND is also responsible for the implementation of the Residence Scheme for Victims of Human Trafficking. Under this scheme, victims of human trafficking may be granted lawful residence status in the Netherlands. The IND plays a crucial role in the timely detection and referral of the indicators of human trafficking practices to law enforcement authorities.
What can the Immigration and Naturalisation Service do to help?
The IND informs suspected victims of the options that they have available to report human trafficking offences as well as of the requirements to utilise the Residence Scheme for Victims of Human Trafficking. Victims and witnesses who report human trafficking offences and who use the Residence Scheme will be granted right of residence by the IND (postponement of departure and/or a residence permit).
