Stichting Nidos focuses on providing support to unaccompanied minor foreign nationals. Nidos acts as a temporary guardian on the behalf of children without parents who are applying for asylum in the Netherlands. In addition, Nidos carries out supervision orders for child protection where children from refugee families are concerned.
What can Nidos do to help?
The category of unaccompanied minor asylum seekers sadly includes potential victims of human trafficking. On entry into the Netherlands, together with the Aliens Police and the Immigration and Naturalisation Service, Nidos immediately ascertains whether the unaccompanied minor asylum seeker is a victim of human trafficking or runs the risk of becoming a victim. If so, Nidos ensures placement in Protected Shelter (provided by COA and Jade). If necessary, Nidos also arranges treatment for psychological trauma. Within the Protected Shelter community, Nidos has developed a specific methodology alongside the COA and Jade.
